Our Story
Pro Bono Coffee Company started with a simple idea: great coffee can do some good.
We were founded by three lawyers and one coffee enthusiast who believed there was room to build a different kind of coffee company—one that takes the coffee seriously while putting purpose into the way the business operates.
The legal profession is part of our story. We have seen firsthand how much access to good legal help can matter to a person, a family, or a community. We also know that access is not always equal. Pro Bono Coffee Company was created to help do something about that.
That doesn’t mean you have to be a lawyer to drink our coffee. Far from it. We’re building coffee for everyone: thoughtfully sourced, carefully roasted, and good enough to earn a place in your morning. The mission gives every cup a little more meaning.
As we grow, we want our customers to know what their purchases help accomplish. That means being transparent about what we give, where it goes, and the impact we make together.
Coffee by Lawyers. Justice for Everyone.

the people behind the coffee
Three Lawyers. One Coffee Enthusiast.
Pro Bono Coffee Company was founded by Ron Lanton, Casandra Lanton, Maria Sosa and Brenda Vargas around a simple idea: great coffee can do some good.
Three of us are lawyers. One of us knows coffee.
Together, we wanted to build a company that takes both seriously.
We come from different backgrounds, but we share a simple belief: a company can take its product seriously, treat people well and still have a purpose bigger than itself.
Coffee by Lawyers. Justice for Everyone.

Our Roots
Roots in Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is part of the story behind Pro Bono Coffee Company. Two of our founders, Maria Sosa and Brenda Vargas, are from the island, and Brenda grew up learning about coffee firsthand, growing and roasting coffee by hand with her grandfather. For us, that connection brings together family, coffee and a sense of responsibility to the communities that shaped us.
